On Saturday August 30th 2008, Manchester District Music Archive present a very special event at Islington Mill in Salford, to celebrate Manchester’s Electro-Funk and B Boy heritage. Through a mixture of talks, Q and A’s, screenings, and, of course, dancing, this event will attempt to tell the story of the city’s early ‘80s Electro-Funk scene, explaining how it sowed the seeds for subsequent developments as the decade unfolded.

You young uns don’t know yer born, it used to be all fields round here. Fields and acid house clubs, that’s all we had to entertain ourselves back in the 80s and 90s. Ask yer dad or yer trendy uncle who still reckons he can throw some shapes at family parties, the one who brings along Playing With Knives just to show you a few moves from back in the day and bores you rigid with tales of wild partying in places as exciting and glamorous as Blackburn, Burnley, Widnes and Stoke. Them were the days, alright. Twenty years ago? Fuck’s sake, that went quick!

Another week and another great guest mix. This time we welcome Emma with a discofied mix of house and techno. A change of genre from the usual maybe, but definitely not a change in vibe or groove. After jacking around the house to this for the last hour or so, Cosmic Boogie heartily recommends it to pick those energy levels up. We think this is the first time in a long time that Emma has put a mix up on the net, so big thanks for that, and here it will have a permanent home…

This is a great selection of disco from Swine Magazine collaborator Ste. Probably one of the finest Balearic disco mixes I have heard. Certainly the best one to come out of Warrington, at any rate. You can find this mix hosted on the aforementioned magazine site, and also on the ‘del lar blog, but we thought it so good that it should be here as well. Swine Magazine commander in chief Phil Thornton will be supplying us with reviews for the site soon as we all gear up for a big Liverpool love-in. Enjoy.

Recorded at the ‘Credit To The Edit’ album launch in The Dolphin, a proper East End London pub, on July 31st 2005. Coming in 3 parts (taken from a chilled-out vibe in the afternoon, to a full-on dance party at night) the mix, which has never appeared anywhere online previously, captures almost 4 hours of the event, which was promoted by Tirk Records and Lasermagnetic.

The Lonely Hearts Club is a monthly night in Manchester run by people who know how to promote and throw a party. Situated at the very cool Purple Pussycat, the music is a throw down of disco, funk, pop, cheese, soul, boogie and electro. Pretty much anything as long as its good. Cosmic Boogie were invited over to play on Friday 27th of June

We welcome Professor Eddy to the site with a fantastically upbeat mix called “Ice Cream Disco”. Eddy contacted me last week with the mix, and its great - a bit like a big disco ray of sunshine. “The idea”, says Eddy, “was to put some fresh disco tracks together”. I think he has certainly done that, alot of new things to my ears thats for sure.
