The Cosmic Boogie Rodeo Show
11/08/08

Howdy Partners.

The Cosmic Boogie Rodeo Show is broadcast on myhouse-yourhouse.net web radio, and will be fitting into a timescale of every other Monday night, or maybe once a month depending on the busy schedule of the station. This is an archive and further information of the first show broadcast on Monday the 11th August from 8 - 10. That’s 2 hours of me playing music and talking shite. Joy. Sadly, for the first show, I managed to cocks it up totally and forget to record it. Still, im going to put this post up about it anyway as it took me ages to write the thing, and its still got some useful bits.

The format of the show is going to be similar each week. 10 or so tunes, some new, some old, some maybe undiscovered with a little bit of info, a Juno Download DJ Chart, a new “exclusive” track, an hour long mix and a classic favourite to end the show. At some point there might be interviews and the like, but this all came about rather quickly so I just haven’t had the time to get that ball rolling yet.

Tracks on the show

Aurra / Such A Feeling (parts 2 & 3)
1982 | Salsoul Records | http://www.discogs.com/release/7472

A Shep pettibone mastermix of an already great track from Aurra - this is a 14 minute electrofunk disco dub monster. its been sampled a million times, most notably to anyone from the rave era who ever heard Bizarre Inc’s “Such a Feeling”.

Felix / Tigerstripes
1984 | Sleeping Bag Records | http://www.discogs.com/release/608689

Arthur Russel produced this (although is not credited in anything other than owning the label). An odd slice of disco (no disco) that can be found on the excellent New York Noise 2 compilation on Soul Jazz records.

Ginger Does Em All / Afro Fiction Remains
2008 | Blunstone japan

Second track from the often bizarre album “Fever in Rhythm” from Japanese Hip Hop/Scratch/Electronic maestro Ginger Does Em All. The rest of the album is as strange but just as funky as this clash of disco and wonk.

Charles Jackson / Ooh Child (Cosmic Boogie Extend Yourself Edit)
1978 | Capitol Records | http://www.discogs.com/release/444303

Charles Jackson? Chuck Jackson? Seems to be some confusion with anything I can find about this track. They were the same person, by all accounts, and its accredited to each in different compilations. This is the Cosmic Boogie extend yourself edit of the track in question - a simple edit to stretch it out from the original 3 and a half minute version I had taken from a Capitol Records CD. Its Cosmic Gospel, and hugely uplifting for it.

Plastic Mode /  Baja Imperial
1985 | Discomagic Records | http://www.discogs.com/release/192751

Can’t find much out about Plastic Mode other than what discogs tell me. Don’t have anything else by them, but this doesnt need much introduction its just pure italo cosmputer game stupidity, with early techno, electro, house and disco influences. Only in Italy…

The Futures / Aint No Time Fo’ Nuthin
1978 | Philadelphia International Records | http://www.discogs.com/release/1313258

Brilliant soul-funk from The Futures, taken from the Past, Present and The Futures album. This is a pure philadelphia laid back groove, not for the dance floor but definitely for the ears.

Fatback / Is This The Future
1982 | Spring Records | http://www.discogs.com/release/178146

1982 electrofunk on Polygram offshoot Spring Records. This, like the also excellent Ray-Gun-Omics from Project Future, paints a bleak world view of life under President Reagan. No matter what the underlying message, the music shines. Fatback released so many good tracks over the years its hard to keep up…

Cosmic DJ Delight / GW Edit

Its top secret this. Can’t say anything more other than watch this space…

The Mix

The mix for this show is a mix that’s already on the Cosmic Boogie site - this is for two reasons. Firstly, its a good introduction to what Cosmic Boogie is about, and secondly, I had little time to prepare and therefore had to get what I could with no guests being able to send a mix on such a short space of time. Usually right here would be an exclusive Cosmic Boogie mix or a super guest mix. Watch this space…

The Goodbye Track

Every week the last tune will be included for  download, and will always be some kind of classic track - sometimes what might be considered a guilty pleasure (so, cheese then), and other times sometimes thats something so damn good, it needs to be included (yep, cheese again). This weeks disco duck…
