Up on the cloud for a week or so now, a preview of the next Boogie Originals release. Naiad by Haku is an absolute monster and it will be sided with a Jacques Renault remix. The other side will be up in a week or so, and we are keeping our hat on it until then, but rest assured its packed full of musical goodness.

Boogie Originals 004 is due March 2012 (vinyl first, digital later).

Little Creatures is a new project that should be putting out some darker, harder more driving sounds than the Cosmic Boogie stuff. Its me (Stu Robinson) and my mate Andy Mac, and our first track has been signed to the excellent Use Of Weapons label, to come out in March 2012(ish).

You can find a sneak preview of it below, along with the first mix which gives a better indication of what to expect. More tracks and another mix will hit Soundcloud soon, with a few more bits scheduled for release on Boogie Originals.

For up to date information you can follow the Little Creatures Facebook Page.

The blog is back in town.

I suppose it never left because I didn’t take it down. Its always been here, I just havent added anything new to it because it feld old…outdated. A bit like what I had been doing was not really reflected in the site. So now, with a brand new suit and some even brander new ideas…its back. And this time I will not only keep it updated but push great guest mixes, useful articles and pictures of entertaining haircuts down to you, the person who takes the time to accidentally stumble across it.

Please bear with me whilst I get all the mixes uploaded up to soundcloud…change all the pictures to colour, streamline the about us page to be actually about the blog, cosmic boogie, boogie originals and little creatures. I need to post all the releases with were you can buy stuff, and I need to get it all sorted as soon as possible before I decide to throw in the towel again. Because nobody quits as well as I do.

It is good to be back, and as you can see Ive been working very hard on my grammar.

So there will be none more of the, silly mistakes.

Two Cosmic Boogie mixes for a couple of mix series that I have great respect for are now up on the brokencloud. First up a mix for the Disco Deviance radio show that you can find up on the DD brokencloud page (and embedded here).

Lordy its been over a month since the last post on this here internet sinkhole, but with good reason.

Basically there is lots going on at the moment…..promo for Boogie Originals 2, Cosmic Boogie 6, releases digitally of 3 different tracks in the last two weeks, a mixmag chart, trying to gather pace with a big night in london next month. I could go on, but thankfully wont.

Two Cosmic Boogie mixes for a couple of mix series that I have great respect for are now up on the brokencloud. First up a mix for the Disco Deviance radio show that you can find up on the DD brokencloud page (and embedded below). Obviously, this one is quite disco based…

Disco Deviance Pulse Radio Show Mix

And then secondly a mix for the quite superb RUFF JAMZ podcast run by Ali OOFT! and The Revenge. This one probably based more around the output of the Boogie Originals label…so dare I say it, a little bit more house music in its leanings.

Cosmic Boogie RUFF JAMZ Podcast

You can download both the mixes from the site as well. If you want to.

Over the next week the guest mixes are going to fly back in, as well as a new big post about something or other. The blog needs some love.

Cosmic Boogie 005 is now out in record shops online and offline somewhere near you. In fact, its been out for a few weeks now but I havent had the time to post about it on my own blog. Criminal, but true. I guess having another baby can do that to you.

Side A: You Make Me So Hot (Sean P Edit)
Side AA: Sunrise (Sean P Edit)

The Cosmic Boogie edit series continues were it left off with non other than the hugely respected music encyclopedia that is Sean P. Sean has a collection of records that anyone would envy, and here he picks out two tracks that explore a different side of the label.

“You Make Me So Hot” is Barbara Lynn under the blade, extending and re arranginga slow-mo disco bomb that will work on any floor. On the flip, “Sunrise” takes Rose Royce’s track from Carwash and creates a true funk monster.

Respectfully edited, wonderfully re-mastered and cut loud at 45 RPM for vinyl lovers, Cosmic Boogie is all about exploring the music.

Id like to thank Sean – someone I really cannot say enough positive things about. A truly nice guy.

Its finally out. In fact, its been finally out for about 2 weeks now – I just havent had time to post about it. Still, no time like the present what with it being a lovely sunny day and all.

You can find it in all the good local record shops be they online or ones that you actually walk into, and here, why not treat yourself to some official marketing gumph…

Side A: Andy Ash / Hip Joint
Side AA: Andy Ash / Hip Joint (Deep Space Orchestra Mix)

Side B: Cosmic Boogie / Fast And Loose
Side BB: Neil Diablo / The Feeling

The label’s first release gives a taster of what to expect; four tracks of original music with feet in the past but head in the present.

The EP opens with ‘Hip Joint’, a brand new 100 BPM house/disco composition from up-and-coming producer Andy Ash. Like previous releases for Jacques Renault’s On The Prowl and others, ‘Hip Joint’ is tight, wrapping carefully selected disco samples around a slo-mo house groove.

On the back of releases for Weapons Of Choice, ART, Winding Road and FOTO, Deep Space Orchestra are tipped for great things in 2011. Here they provide a remix of ‘Hip Joint’, upping the tempo and building the tension.

The B-side begins with a contribution from label boss Cosmic Boogie. ‘Fast & Loose’ is a midtempo bumper that fuses disco, deep house, and blues with an old skool attitude.

To round things off Neil Diablo, resident at Manchester’s infamous El Diablo’s Social Club, weighs in with ‘The Feeling’, a fuzzy chunk of low slung 21st century boogie.

All the tracks are made for the dance-floor, mastered separately for vinyl and digital release, and will be in all the usual music outlets soon.

Another original production. Well of sorts – this is heavily sampled of course from a number of old garage things. I got the urge to make something like this from playing Turntable Orchestra out alot and thinking it would be nice to make something different with that feel. Hence, it samples that track.

There are countless other samples in there as well as you will hear, along with a healthy mixture of played in stuff (yep even I can play two chords one after another on the piano).

No prizes for originality here, a straight forward peak time dance-floor track that some people will love and some will hate. Its going to be coming out in the next few months, just not decided which label it will be on yet. Will most certainly be both vinyl and digital.

For now, fill your boots with a low quality preview from Soundbrokencloud…

Another remix (rework) added to the terminally ill website that is soundbrokencloud. This is a remix of a track from my mates Blacklodge and Alkalino called Breaking Bad...a track that I put in a mix a long time back now.

Another remix (rework) added to the terminally ill website that is soundbrokencloud. This is a remix of a track from my mates Blacklodge and Alkalino called Breaking Bad…a track that I put in a mix a long time back now.

The original is so good I wanted to keep many of the sounds intact. So rather than kicking everything out as with most remixes, I shunted stuff about and slowed the tempo down to a crawl. My aim was to change the vibe of the track but not its rave reinforced musicality. Its a rework rather than a remix, if anyone knows why that is please send your answers in on a postcard.

This will be out (digital only) in the next few weeks on Alkalino and Blacklodge’s new label “Much Love”.

I really should of got this mix up earlier than the threee months or so that I have had it – but then you should try having my life and all the massively, hugely important stuff I have to do on a day to day basis. No really, you should.

Chris Barker doesn’t understand this, and after him relentlessly nagging me at least once in the aforementioned three months, I think its time I put it out for pasture.

As one half of the super team that is Deep Space Orchestra, it goes without saying that Barker knows his onions. He also happens to know a bit about music, and here, he shares it with you.

Its been a slow start to the year but all that is about to change. I have three mixes to go up this week all from Liverpool based folk so thats going to be a mix a day every day for what remains. Consider yourself spoiled.

First things first though – I have a new label launching this year called Boogie Originals…and although I will do a post announcing a new blog, Soundcloud page and Facebook shite as well, here is one of the tracks from the EP.

Its not the a side, but its all new, not an edit or remix, and its unashamedly dance-floor. More to come on that score over the coming days.

I thought about how to write a big summary of the year, but then realised I wouldn’t read someone else’s blog about “what a great year its been” and other such sentimental bullshit, so why should you.

Instead I will list ten or so tracks (in no particular order) that have really made a big difference this year, and my thanks go out to the people that made them.

Ben Sun / Salty Tears

Salty Tears – Ben Sun by Ben Sun

Quite simply the most beautiful, well produced track I heard all year. Its probably about as deep as I get…no idea if its disco or house or whatever it is, its just superb.

Andy Ash / Hip Joint

Andy Ash – Hip Joint by Andy Ash
I played (and still play) this out in every set. Its a party starter, and is unbelievably good. Its also coming out on the new Cosmic Boogie offshoot label in the next month. So there.

Toomy Disco / Age Of The Jaguar

Toomy Disco – Age Of The Jaguar (So Sound Recordings) (Free Download – click for link) by Kahua Music

Its an edit of sorts, but by eck its brilliant. Every time I played this out it makes people dance. Enough Said.

Eltron John / And Then We Realise

KINR001 Eltron John – … And Then We Realize by Koh-I-Noor Records

Sheer slowed down brilliance from super talent Eltron John, who also happens to be the words greatest racing car driver.

Trickski / Phil Collins

Pill Collins by trickski

Another slowed down brilliantly produced gem. Another deep one as well…this I think is in many peoples tracks of the year thingys and for good reason.

Heartbeat / LTJ Experience

heartbeat (ltj edit rework) sampler by ltj xperience

Maybe I need something to counteract the seriousness of a couple of the tracks so far. This fits perfectly – I played this virtually every gig this year and its cheesy but I love it.

Jacques Renault / In The Middle Of The Night

Jacques Renault - In The Middle of The Night by future classic

Loved many things that Jacques Renault has put out this year but this worked many many times because of a super vocal. Its an edit but its a very good one.

Leftside Wobble / Find A Way

Russ Brown – Find A Way (Leftside Wobble Dub) by Leftside Wobble

A great track from Leftside – Acid House vibe and one to lift up a crowd when there is too much namby pamby shit being played (by me usually).

Storm Queen / Look Right Through

Look Right Through (Vocal) by TimeOutNewYork

Another one that will probably be the top of peoples lists across the world. The best vocal and synth combo I heard all year (and I heard quite a few).

Franc Spengler / Open Eyes

Another one that was tried and tested (a great set starter), but I cant find a link for it on the cloud…will keep hunting.

Remix number 5 has finally been polished off after what seems like an energy sapping few weeks. Production just takes me forever – I mess about and tweak things that dont need tweaking for what seems like an eternity.

This is a remix for my good chums Deep Space Orchestra. If you dont know them then you probably will soon as I think they have enough records coming out in the next few months to bring Discogs to its knees. I wanted to do something a bit different here maybe a little darker and housier than usual…and hence the Deep Rave mix is born. Its a big vocal hook that I have always loved and it fit the key of the track so why not.

This is going to drop on vinyl and digital sometime in February from More About Music, with a remix from none other than Mike Dunn.

Cardigans in the air!

Phil Cooper asked a number of his music cohorts to supply seven tracks for a new weekly venture of his – the twittered out Nu Northern Soul tune of the day. I dont think it was that my selections were the best, I think I just managed to reply the fastest…so I am the first guest selector starting tomorrow (Sunday the 21st of November).

I wont give away anything here about what those selections are, however, you wont be surprised to know that there are not many trance records in there. Yes, not even the mighty Atlantis by Fiji.

You can get the music by following Nu Northern Soul on twitter (you can find out more info on the Nu Northern Soul website). You can also follow me on twitter now, as I have decided to try not to hate it anymore.
Great Scott. Sometimes it takes me fucking ages to get a new post up on here. I really need to sort my act out. At least this time I have good enough reason though…after a bout of flu that lasted for 5 or so days, all time has been spent working on a new remix which is now ready. So now, there is time again, and there is also a remix to cast your ears over.

I was contacted by the extremely affable David Wareing (who you might know better as Redsoul) to remix a track for his label Playmore Music. The track in question is by producer My Pair of Shoes from Vienna, and is a disco/house filtered cut up – something of the style that I am really feeling at the moment…so I poured as much time and effort in as possible trying to get a bigger sound than I have on remixes past so far.

The results you can hear below, and this should be out on both digital and vinyl within the next 4 weeks, along with remixes from compatriot Neil Diablo and Redsoul, and a dub from My Pair Of Shoes as well.

Another remix crafted from the very fires of my little studio. I was asked by Sleazy McQueen to remix a track from Cole Medina called Annadue…which will also be coming out with Social Disco Club and OOFT! remixes.

When I heard the track, and knowing the other remixers, I wanted to do something different to the nu-disco sound of the original and so decided to (try) and head towards another sound I love and work in when I am playing – a kind of old skool garagey sound. Best way to do that? Simply go and rob a truck load of samples. Thats what they all did back then (with added drum machine of course). So took a load of old records out…dusted them off, and stole things gracefully.

The outcome if below, and I will post full details of the package when it is available to buy on vinyl or download.

Another remix for you – coming thick and fast now eh? Well not really, this is the second one but a third will be added soon. This time I have remixed the genre spanning Tal M Klein’s slo-mo balearic chill out disco based groover – Without Her. Other people on the remix tip include The Hardway Brothers, DJ DRM and Fromage Disco. So its a nice healthy package of differences presented, and you should be able to buy it both on vinyl and digitally at some point in October. Id like to thank Tal for giving me the opportunity to work with him, and hope that you all enjoy the variety on the release.

Because we live in the modern age all of the tracks are available on Soundcloud for you to have a listen and make some comments, and if you wish to do so, they are all embedded below. Its really smart the Internet, isn’t it.

I’ve met some decent people this year – its been a good year. Playing more places has meant that i know have more friends in Poland, Brighton, Bristol and (deep breath)…Swindon! However, one of the stand out nights of the year was being asked to play at the re-opening of the legendary 3 Beat (now 3B) records in Liverpool. It turned out to be well worth the trip into town, although I still havent been back to get my sunglasses or headphones because I am fucking useless.

One of the stand out things about the night, besides Thomas Tuft dad jamming to my djing with a saxaphone, was meeting the next Liverpool Disco Mix selector, Adam Helliwell. I’d known of him for a while, but never spoke properly…and it turns out that just like the rest of them hes a good, decent, knowledgeable chap.

I asked for a guest mix from him, and unlike the rest of them, he has actually come up with the goods (sort it out boys). Now whoever else is out there reading this knows that not only is he sound, he can also pull out a great mix. This is exactly what I wanted when I started asking people for Disco mixes – a different take each time and so far so good, with this mix expertly covering the deeper side of the nu-disco spectrum (without treading too far into edit territory).

It really has been a good year.

The Liverpool disco mix series continues with mixes from both known, and possibly unknown people from the Merseyside area spinning their own take on disco. This weeks installment see’s NuNorthern Soul resident Ste Edge mixing up a roller-coaster ride of what I would consider some of the best disco vibe stuff about. A really good uplifting Friday mix.

You can catch Ste playing at the next NuNorthern Soul night in Chester, alongside the likes of Phil Cooper, Ste Hodge. I will also be a guest on the bill for this one, the night before the country’s most successful club head to Manchester to let the southerner’s see us play. I wont tell you which team Ste will be supporting that day, but at least you can hear that with a mix as good as this, his brain hasn’t completely turned to mush yet.

Find out more about ste from Soundcloud. or give him a shout on Facebook.
