This Saturday see’s the launch of a new quarterly Cosmic Boogie Presents…night in Liverpool. The party is held in the second room of the city’s hugely successful MuMu night at new club Silo, and will run every three months to start with. The first brings in Trus’me, the Manchester deep house, disco, soul and funk pioneer and head honcho of the Prime Numbers record label

This saturday night see’s the return of a djing performance that went down as Legend in the city of Liverpool. Terrence Parker, he of detroit house, techno, disco….well just about everything fame comes back to a city that has been lay in wait.

Following on with the cut down versions of the amazing Red Bull Music Academy videos for the countdown to the event kicking off in London this year, here is the American/Sheffield disco house legend that is Maurice Fulton. We had him up to play archive last year and he was amazing, as ever. In this video you see the mans thought process laid out on the table as he lays down a groove.

Not very often do I post about other events on here, things usually get enough coverage on the web to last a lifetime. However, I think an exception can be made with The Red Bull Music Acadamy. This year the event takes place in London between the 7th of Feb and the 12th of March, and like probably everyone else reading this, I am kicking myself for not even trying to apply for it.

It might not be a “tradition” just yet, as its only the second year – but im pretty sure that it is destined to become one. Boxing Night in Liverpool is a big night out for the locals, and boxing night in Liverpool is now a big night for Archive. Were back again on the 26th with a FREE party. You wont get that anywhere else in town, and were doing it to setup what promises to be a great year of archive parties in 2010.

Designer Wayne Hemingway and his son Jack have installed one in Liverpool’s Tate Gallery and, as part of the launch event this Thursday (the 12th of November), Greg Wilson will be presenting a new two hour mix – ‘Music Played In Discotheques’ – between 7pm-9pm in a special after hours session.

This Saturday (the 26th of September) I will be playing at a night I have mentioned on this blog a number of times before – Altiplano, at the Novas CUC Centre in Liverpool. Ill be warming up for Kelvin Andrews and Chris Barker, which is nice because if I wasn’t playing any records, id be there regardless just to have a good old dance.

I am playing this Friday at Cream in Liverpool as part of the Sasha and Digweed night. Archive was asked to represent itself in the Cream Annexe so I will be playing the first hour of disco and funk, etc. Ill keep the tempo up a bit I am sure, so as not to alienate people who clearly wont be there for disco strains – but I am looking forward to playing on the cream system none the less.

After a successful archive launch last month with Theo Parrish, we are delighted to continue bringing the archive format with the arrival of Ashley Beedle. This months party is hosted at Leaf Tea Shop and Bar, Friday 12th December. Think of it as a Christmas party of sorts, and a good last night out before the madness of boxing night / NYE get going.

On the 21st of November, new night archive kicks off at the equally new Leaf Tea Shop & Bar. archive is a series of nights featuring 5 hour sets from DJ’s and artists who are leading lights of dance music. With most of the night at their disposal, each DJ will have license to play the classics that inspired them, the music they created, and the music they aspire to.

I’ve been looking forward to this night for some time, billed as “the story of Manchester’s early ‘80s Electro-Funk scene,” not just because there’s likely to be some great music on offer, but because the organisers have taken the time to augment this with film, discussion and art to try and dig deeper into the story of this era, which for reasons unknown seems to have been totally overlooked following the House music explosion in 1988.

The all new Cosmic Boogie Rodeo show is on tonight from 8 – 10 (GMT) on www.myhouse-yourhouse.net web radio. Were covering for the Soul on Ice show for this month, with a move to getting a permanent show on the same timeslot monthly or weekly. Expect a multitude of things including impressions, poetry, a look over the days newspapers and an interview with the shadow minister for transport, Robert Goodwill. Oh, there will also probably be alot of disco.

On Saturday August 30th 2008, Manchester District Music Archive present a very special event at Islington Mill in Salford, to celebrate Manchester’s Electro-Funk and B Boy heritage. Through a mixture of talks, Q and A’s, screenings, and, of course, dancing, this event will attempt to tell the story of the city’s early ‘80s Electro-Funk scene, explaining how it sowed the seeds for subsequent developments as the decade unfolded.

The end of June see’s not one but two Cosmic Boogie nights to note down – firstly this coming weekend (Saturday the 21st) see’s the return of Shoot Speed to The Cellar Bar in Blackburn, were none other than Crazy Penis will be laying down a soundtrack alongside the Disco Outcasts. Cosmic Boogie’s biggest month so far sees the launch of a new monthly residency in Blackburn, the continuation of our weekly night at the Magnet in Liverpool, and an afterparty with one of the all time greats when Cosmic Boogie has been invited to part of the line up for the Roy Ayers gig. A true legend.

This month sees the start of a new residency for Cosmic Boogie in The Magnet (Liverpool). We will be playing there every Friday night, from 10 – 5, starting off upstairs till around midnight then moving down to take control of the fish tank. The music, as ever, will be a mixed up selection of old and new disco, funk, soul, boogie, electrofunk and everything in between.

March has another 4 Cosmic Boogie @ Geisha dates for the diary. Same as usual; great music, free entry on the door, free cd’s given out (just come and ask us for one), and cheap drinks behind the bar for students. What more could you ask for on a Thursday?

February sees the return to action of the Cosmic Boogie Collective, with 4 dates @ Geisha bar, including Valentines night where there will be 50 copies of an exclusive “Love from Cosmic Boogie…” CD given out to all the people who attend, with all your disco, eletcrofunk and proto-house love classics.

Basically – were taking a break. After a heavy christmas schedule, January is the month of relaxation and our weekly Thursday at Geisha Bar has been put on hold until the much more sociable February kicks in. We return on Thursday, February the 7th, and are using the time in between now and then to work out our cosmic boogie master plan for the coming year.

Just a quick reminder that tonight is the Cosmic Christmas party at Geisha. So if you are in Liverpool on a works’ do, or sat at home wishing there was somewhere for you to go and get down, Geisha is the place. Starting at 9:30pm, Greg Wilson, Stu Robinson and guest Paul Outlar will guide you through a festive evening of funk, boogie, disco and all flavours in between. Admission is, as always, free of charge…
