Little Creatures is a new project that should be putting out some darker, harder more driving sounds than the Cosmic Boogie stuff. Its me (Stu Robinson) and my mate Andy Mac, and our first track has been signed to the excellent Use Of Weapons label, to come out in March 2012(ish).

You can find a sneak preview of it below, along with the first mix which gives a better indication of what to expect. More tracks and another mix will hit Soundcloud soon, with a few more bits scheduled for release on Boogie Originals.

For up to date information you can follow the Little Creatures Facebook Page.

Two Cosmic Boogie mixes for a couple of mix series that I have great respect for are now up on the brokencloud. First up a mix for the Disco Deviance radio show that you can find up on the DD brokencloud page (and embedded here).

Lordy its been over a month since the last post on this here internet sinkhole, but with good reason.

Basically there is lots going on at the moment…..promo for Boogie Originals 2, Cosmic Boogie 6, releases digitally of 3 different tracks in the last two weeks, a mixmag chart, trying to gather pace with a big night in london next month. I could go on, but thankfully wont.

Two Cosmic Boogie mixes for a couple of mix series that I have great respect for are now up on the brokencloud. First up a mix for the Disco Deviance radio show that you can find up on the DD brokencloud page (and embedded below). Obviously, this one is quite disco based…

Disco Deviance Pulse Radio Show Mix

And then secondly a mix for the quite superb RUFF JAMZ podcast run by Ali OOFT! and The Revenge. This one probably based more around the output of the Boogie Originals label…so dare I say it, a little bit more house music in its leanings.

Cosmic Boogie RUFF JAMZ Podcast

You can download both the mixes from the site as well. If you want to.

Over the next week the guest mixes are going to fly back in, as well as a new big post about something or other. The blog needs some love.

It actually has been ages. Looking back through the archives, the last time I did a mix for my own blog (directly that is – one thats not hosted by or created for anyone else) is over two years ago. A time when my football club hadn’t imploded, my second child was still a mere grub, and apple hadn’t “changed everything” at least 14 times.

So last night I thought about what kind of mix to do – seeing as there are going to be a few others released on other sites over the next week or two, and the path it took me down was much of the more nu-disco and houseier sounds that I have in my box, and like, but get little chance to work into what I play normally.

So here it is, a mix of stuff that shows a different, perhaps more up-front, vibe. I suppose this is Cosmic Boogie Mix 15 – but I have decided to drop the numbers on the mixes as they mean nothing. Gav Kendrick asked me to do that a while ago, and sadly I didn’t listen then. I hear you now, Gav lad.

Its been a while since I did an update, mostly because I am a useless bastard. So this week will see three – thats right, three new mixes from people I have met on my travels of late, all the different shades of disco and house represented of course. Tonight though its my turn, with a mix on Galaxy Radio going out sometime between the hours of 2am and 6am. You can find out more details at the Galaxy Radio website.

For those of you who are not going to be up in Manchester at that time, the whole show will be available from David Dunne’s Mixcloud account as of Monday. Win.

Id like to thank David for asking me to do this, with the likes of Greg Wilson, Joey Negro and the Disco Outcasts regular guests, it really is an honour.

UPDATE: Now that the show has been on, you can catch the full thing on Davids Nu Cool Mixcloud account (link mentioned above), or you can stream it from my mixcloud account as well:

I was asked to go out to play in Poland by the Strictly Business crew (J-son and Funkoff – known to friends as Rafal and Jaromir) last weekend (28th November), and I just thought I would take a minute to reflect on a great trip, meeting cool, knowledgeable, talented and hospitable people at every turn.

The night was a success in that everyone who was there seemed to be having a great time. It wasnt without its technical problems to start with – I use Serato and we had a few issues for whatever reason, so in the end we made the decision to stop stressing, and get on with the night taking one deck each – me on the left hand side with Serato and the Strictly Business boys on the right playing from trusty old vinyl – a back to back. To say it worked well is an understatement.

As none of us knew what each other would do next, all your standard set build up was thrown out of the window. It was just bomb after bomb after bomb, and the crowd responded by climbing up on the stage, jumping, clapping, shouting, cheering….and of course, dancing (like mad). A truly great atmosphere.

I dont really think many words can do it justice though – you might want to take a look at the pictures:

Facebook Poland Pictures

Flickr Poland Pictures (slideshow)

I would like to thank Paweł Matwiejczuk and Krystian Maj for the great photos.

I promised that when I got back I would create a mix with all the tracks I played from the night, however, looking at the list its just so many big numbers it might not make pretty listening outside of a club at 3 a.m., so I decided to put together an hour mix of the kind of vibe we had, but more on a level thats easy to listen to now. You can download and stream it below (and there is also a tracklisting).

Id like to thank Piotr, Rafal, Jaromir and the people at Club Balsam for making a truly great trip, and I know that if you carry on doing what you are doing then this will all come good in Warsaw. It’s clearly ready for it…

TRACKLISTING

Johnny Adams / Feel The Beat
Sharon Bailey / Cosmic Dust (Instrumental)
Trussel / I Love It (Waywards More Love Edit)
DFD / Go Ahead
Baja Imperi / Plastic Mode
The Younger Generation / We Rap More Mellow (Joey Negro Club Mix)
Joy / I Need Your Love
Out In The Sticks / Forget Me Vox
Dr Love / Disco Deviance
Candi Statton / When You Wake Up Tomorrow

Cool in the Pool is a cool website. It says so in the title, and it backs it up in the content. I was lucky enough to do a mix for Cool in the Pool and an interview a few weeks ago, and, as Its been up for a little while I thought I would link to it from here. The mix was a more uptempo affair than usual, on purpouse. I try to play as many different things as i can (as many different things as I like), however, don’t expect a genre mish-mash of everything going just the usual groove based affair.

You can find the full mix and interview here. Thanks goes to Len for the opportunity.

TRACKLISTING

The Emperor Machine / Kananana
Tensnake / Holding Back My Love
Candi Statton / Listen… (Allenby Chilton Edit)
Do It / Out In The Sticks
The Popular Peoples Front / Cellophane Lover
Brooklyn Express / Change Position 88

Last week (last Thursday to be precise), I was asked to do a mix and interview for the Tropical Space Machine show on deep frequency radio. The initial part of the show (the first hour and half) was a mix from Johnny Chingas, and is a fantastic laid back mix of old and new sounds in super slo mo style. Then, straight after, there is a short interview with me and a very Cosmic Boogie flavored mix. You can catch the whole show in the archives here on Deep Frequency:

http://deepfrequency.com/archives.php?selectdate=2009-07-16

Just in case that dissapears, here is the mix I did for the show seperately – as soon as I can get the full show for archive I will put it up here. Tracklisting is provided…

TRACKLISTING

Interspace / Droids (with War Of The Worlds Intro)
Space Machine (Cosmic Boogies 9000 edit) / The Undisputed Truth
Don’t Tell Me, Tell Her / Odyssey
Aint Got Time Fo’ Nothin / The Futures
Ooh Child (Cosmic Boogies Extend Yourself edit) / Charles Jackson
Strawberry Letter 23 / The Brothers Johnson
I Don’t Know If I Can Make It / Dawson Smith
Everything Is OK (Ashley Beedle’s Love Boogie Edit) / Al Green
It’s Critical / Billy Paul
Say Blow By Blow Backwards / Fred Wesley and The Horny Horns
Do Your Dance / Rose Royce
The Users / Johnnie Taylor
Railroad Man (Ashley Beedle’s Soul Train Edit) / Bill Withers

A mix, not necessarily reflecting what will be played at the archive night, but certainly the vibe that I hope will be around – an influx of style and sound.

The Lonely Hearts Club is a monthly night in Manchester run by people who know how to promote and throw a party. Situated at the very cool Purple Pussycat, the music is a throw down of disco, funk, pop, cheese, soul, boogie and electro. Pretty much anything as long as its good. Cosmic Boogie were invited over to play on Friday 27th of June, and we dragged along our photographer Ste who took loads of splendid photos for your viewing pleasure.

Sadly there was a hiccup with the system on the night so most of it had to run through vinyl (and anyone who reads this site knows how we love Serato) – so I didn’t get much chance to play, instead being entertained by the very affable and musically clued up Ema (one of the Lonely Hearts residents).

The Lonely Hearts Club is a great night run by great people and Cosmic Boogie wishes it every success. You can find out more about the night on facebook. Thank you’s go to Gemma and Susannah for the support.

Because of the lack of any real opportunity to play, I still feel like I didn’t give anything to the night and that bothers me. So I have created what is well and truly a disco-boogie-pop-funk-bomb-cheese-fest, for your downloading or streaming enjoyment. I have included a tracklist – although I toyed about with the idea of not putting one at all (because most of it is fairly obvious), it just wouldn’t be in keeping with the rest of this site…

TRACKLISTING

Mary Jane Girls / All Night Long
Inner Life / Make It Last Forever (Larry Levan Mix)
Fred Wesley / House Party
Gwen Guthrie / Aint Nothing Goin’ On But The Rent
Neneh Cherry / Buffalo Stance
Aurra / Baby Love (Instrumental)
Leroy Burgess / Heartbreaker
MC Mellow Dee / And You Don’t Stop
Pure Energy / When Youre Dancing
Chemise / She Can’t Love You
Whispers / And The Beat Goes On (Greg Wilson Edit)
Rockers Revenge / Sunshine (Greg Wilson Edit)
Geraldine Hunt / Can’t Fake The Feeling
Instant Funk / Just Because You’ll Be Mine (Edit)
Jean Carn / Was That All It Was
Chic / I Want Your Love (Todd Terje Edit)
Chaz Jankel / Pleased To Meet You
The System / You Are In My System
The Salsoul Orchestra / Take Some Time Out
Kool and the Gang / Too Hot
Soul II Soul / Back To Life

We are great friends of Cosmic Disco over here. There are some things we don’t like about Manchester *cough, Ronaldo*, but Cosmic Disco is certainly not one of them. Not only is the blog an inspiration, its a virtual catacomb filled with musical treasures. Without these three aficionado’s this blog wouldn’t exist, and I bet countless others wouldn’t either. So its a real pleasure to have a Cosmic Boogie mix hosted by them.

For the mix, I wanted to do something more in vein with the sounds I am finding myself drawn too; more boogie/electrofunk led disco, heavy on bass line and percussion with only the slightest whiff of mince about it. There’s not much else to say really, so why don’t you head over to Cosmic Disco and listen to it, and then while there take some time to have a look at the site. Levels of genre spanning that put most of us to shame.

TRACKLISTING

Cats ‘n’ Jammer Kids / Disco Drum
Level 42 / Love Games
Sparque / Take Some Time
Five Letters / Tha Kee Thaa Thaa
Sandy Kerr / Thug Rock
Brenda Taylor / You Can’t Have Your Cake and Eat It Too (Greg Wilson Edit)
The Emperor Machine / Slap On
Leo Zero / Walk On (Special Edit)
Mike T / Do It Anyway You Wanna’ (Greg Wilson Edit)
Jimmy Ross / First True Love Affair (Eddie Tour Edit)
Grizle Hands / Its Disco Dub
Universal Robot Band / Barely Breaking Even (DT Edit)
Superstition Outro / Dennis Mobley & Fresh Taste
